L : LAW. That which is laid down, ordained, or established. A rule or method according to which phenomena or actions co-exist or follow each other. That which must be obeyed and followed by citizens, subject to sanctions or legal consequences.

I : INDUSTRY. Any department or branch of art, occupation, or business conducted as a means of livelihood or for profit; especially, one which employs much labor and capital and is a distinct branch of trade.

N : NATIONALITY. That quality or character which arises from the fact of a person's belonging to a nation or state. Nationality determines the political status of the individual, especially with reference to allegiance; while domicile determines his civil status. Nationality arises either by birth or by naturalization. According to Savigny, "nationality" is also used as opposed to "territoriality," for the purpose of distinguishing the case of a nation having no national territory.

D  : DOMESTIC, adj. Pertaining, belonging, or relating to a home, a domicile, or to the place of birth, origin, creation, or transaction.

A : ADVOCATE, n. One who assists, defends, or pleads for another; one who renders legal advice and aid and pleads the cause of another before a court or a tribunal, a counselor. A person learned in the law, and duly admitted to practice, who assists his client with advice, and pleads for him in open court. Holthouse.



A : ADVISE. To give an opinion or counsel, or recommend a plan or course of action; also to give notice.

R : RELATION. A relative or kinsman; a person connected by consanguinity.

I : INVOICE. In commercial law. A list or account of goods or merchandise sent by merchants to their correspondents at home or abroad, in which the marks of each package, with other particulars, are set forth.


S: SECRET. Concealed; hidden; not made public; particularly, in law, kept from the knowledge or notice of persons liable to be affected by the act, transaction, deed, or other thing spoken of.


K : KNOWLEDGE. Acquaintance with fact or truth, United States Fire Ins. Knowledge of law includes knowledge of the decisions of the courts, which are part of the law. Personal knowledge. Knowledge of the truth in regard to a particular fact or allegation, which is original, and does not depend on information or hearsay. Personal knowledge of an allegation in an answer is personal knowledge of its truth or falsity; and if the allegation is a negative one,
this necessarily includes a knowledge of the truth or falsity of the allegation denied.

A : ATTORNEY. In the most general sense this term denotes an agent or substitute, or one who is appointed and authorized to act in the place or stead of another. Attorney at law. An advocate, counsel, or official agent employed in preparing, managing, and trying cases in the courts. An officer in a court of justice, who is employed by a party in a cause to manage it for him.

A : ASSOCIATION. The act of a number of persons in uniting together for some special purpose or business. The persons so joining. It is a word of vague meaning used to indicate a collection of persons who have joined together for a certain object.


M : MONEY LENT. In pleading, the technical name of a declaration in an action of assumpsit for that the defendant promised to pay the plaintiff for money lent.

B : BLACKLIST. A list of persons marked out for special avoidance, antagonism, or enmity on the part of those who prepare the list or those among whom it is intended to circulate; as where a trades-union "blacklists" workmen who refuse to conform to its rules, or where a list of insolvent or untrustworthy persons is published by a commercial agency or mercantile association.

A : ADMINISTRATION. Managing or conduct of an office or employment; the performance of the executive duties of an institution, business, or the like.


R : REPRESENT. To appear in the character of; personate; to exhibit; to expose before the eyes. To represent a thing is to produce it publicly. Contracts A statement express or implied made by one of two contracting parties to the other, before or at the time of making the contract, in regard to some past or existing fact, circumstance, or state of facts pertinent to the contract, which is influential in bringing about the agreement.


S : STATEMENT OF CLAIM. A written or printed statement by the plaintiff in an action in the English high court, showing the facts on which he relies to support his claim against the defendant, and the relief which he claims. It is delivered to the defendant or his solicitor.

A : AVOIDANCE. A making void, useless, empty, or of no effect; annulling, cancelling; escaping or evading.

R : RIGHT OF SEARCH. In international law. The right of one vessel, on the high seas, to stop a vessel of another nationality and examine her papers and (in some cases) her cargo. Thus, in time of war, a vessel of either belligerent has the right to search a neutral ship, encountered at sea, to ascertain whether the latter is carrying contraband goods.
